AHEC Veterans Mental Health Project: Caring for the Military
This is an opportunity for SELAHEC to play a role in enhancing mental health care for veterans and their family members through collaboration between HRSA, National AHEC and the Veterans Affair.
This activity, intended for physicians, registered nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professions involved with military patients and their families, will help them learn how to better service our returning service members and their families regarding behavioral health issues.
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to: Explain the importance of knowing about military culture, Discuss the common behavioral health issues seen in service members, List the reasons for asking patients about military service in their family, Arrange for referral to Department of Veterans Affairs, Illustrate how to become a TRICARE provider, Provide appropraite care and counsel for patients and their families, Nursing Continuing Education can be provided for either the one hour and/or four hour course.
